The Importance of a Daily Wellbeing Routine

How daily wellbeing practices contribute to feeling healthy, inspired and strong in oneself and enable you to be a positive support and beacon of light to others.

I’d like to share a simple question with you:

What are you doing each day to support your physical and mental wellbeing?

When we think about health, we often focus on the body. Yet Swami Sivananda taught that our mental health is our greatest health because the state of our mind influences every aspect of our lives. When our mind is calm and balanced, our body often responds positively. When we’re carrying stress, worry or negativity, our physical health can also begin to suffer.

This is why having a daily practice is so important.

Without something that nourishes us each day, it’s easy to become depleted. Our energy drops, our mood can decline, and we may find ourselves making choices that don’t truly support our wellbeing.

Yoga teaches that we are beings of energy. As we cultivate more peace, balance and positivity within ourselves, we naturally strengthen our willpower, make healthier decisions, and often attract more positive experiences into our lives.

One of the beautiful teachings in yoga is Abhyasa—the Sanskrit word for regular, consistent practice. Like learning a musical instrument or developing any new skill, the real benefits come through gentle repetition. It’s not about doing everything perfectly; it’s about showing up for yourself every day.

During my years living and teaching in yoga centres, I saw this happen time and time again. People who simply practised regularly found that their lives gradually began to change. They felt healthier, became more positive, let go of habits that no longer served them, and naturally moved towards a more balanced and fulfilling way of living.

Your daily practice doesn’t need to be complicated. It could be:

  • 10 minutes of meditation.
  • A few rounds of calming breathing exercises.
  • A short yoga practice or gentle walk.
  • Eating more nourishing vegetarian meals.
  • Reading something uplifting.
  • Keeping a journal of gratitude or self-reflection.

Small, consistent steps often create the greatest transformation.

The wonderful thing is that the benefits don’t stop with us. When we feel calmer, happier and more centred, the people around us also feel it. Our families, friends and colleagues all benefit from the positive energy we bring into the world.

So today, I’d like to leave you with this reflection:

What small act of self-care can you commit to each day?

Remember, you don’t have to do everything at once. Even ten minutes a day can become the beginning of a lifelong journey towards greater health, happiness and inner peace.

If you’d like any guidance in creating a daily yoga or meditation practice, I’d be delighted to help.

Wishing you every blessing on your journey.

With love and light,

Om Shanti
